British Composer Awards 2006 - Categories

Nominations are invited for works that have received their UK première between 1st April 2005 and 31st March 2006.

The categories for the British Composer Awards 2006 are as follows:

Instrumental Solo and Duo

Chamber

Vocal (solo voice(s) with or without accompaniment from a single instrument up to orchestra)

Choral (a cappella or accompanied including choir and orchestra)

Wind Band or Brass Band

Orchestral

Stage Works

Liturgical (for works used in the context of an act of worship of any faith)

New Media (for multi-media, interactive, electronic or electro-acoustic works. Multi-media works must include a non-music discipline such as visuals, plastic arts or the application of technology)

Community or Educational Project

Making Music Award (for submissions from members of Making Music, or other non-professional groups)

Radio 3 Listeners Award (to be voted for by BBC Radio 3 Listeners in September 2006)


Winning works will be recognised by a presentation to the composer at the Awards ceremony on 24th November and will be the focus of a BBC Radio 3 broadcast on 27th November 2006.

The winner of the Radio 3 Listeners Award will receive £10,000 from the PRS Foundation towards a new orchestral commission which will be also be broadcast. This Award will be voted for by the general public and details of how to vote can be found from September 2006, at bbc.co.uk/radio3.

The winner of the Award for a Community or Educational project will receive £5,000 from the PRS Foundation towards a further project in 2007.

The winner of the Wind Band or Brass Band category will receive £1,000 from the Worshipful Company of Musicians towards a new commission.
