The Ivor Novello Awards                                   ivors

The Ivor Novello Awards are presented by the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters and are sponsored by The Performing Right Society.  They are internationally respected as Britain’s major platform for recognising its songwriting and composing talents. For over fifty years the Ivors has been the only annual event to exclusively honour this vital source and fulcrum of the music industry’s existence and prosperity – the music writer.

With over 1000 statuettes awarded in their history, the solid bronze depiction of Euterpe the Greek muse of music rests on the mantelpiece of the great and the good in British music creation and past recipients include Don Black, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Eric Clapton, Sir John Dankworth, Cathy Dennis, George Fenton, John Lennon, Annie Lennox, Sir Paul McCartney, George Michael, Dave Stewart, Sting, Robbie Williams and Sir John Tavener. The Ivors take place every May.  For more details please click on the logo for the micro-site. Members of the Academy can access booking forms and nomination forms in the members' resource section of the site.

The Songwriters’ Academy

The Academy launched The Songwriters' Academy in March 2006.  It is an exciting new contest which sets out to discover future songwriters to present to the industry.

Since its inception the Academy has partnered with a number of different organisations, which have included BBC Radio 2, BBC New Talent, Apple UK and Youth Music to offer masterclasses, showcases and one on one mentoring to winners by hit songwriters such as Sacha Skarbek, Pam Sheyne, Francis Eg White and Kano.
