Biography
Peter Naylor read English at Cambridge and studied on a composition scholarship with Herbert Howells at the Royal College of Music, London. He joined the staff of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1965 and later, for five years, was with Scottish Opera as Music Associate, Opera for Youth.
He was Organist at the Ashwell Festival in Hertfordshire, 1964-69; Associate Organist of Glasgow Cathedral, 1972-85; and Repetiteur for Shepway Youth Opera, Kent, 1982-85.
"The Mountain People" (a workshop opera commissioned by Opera for Youth) has toured widely in schools in Scotland and Northern England. "Pied Piper", a one-act opera, has been performed in a number of Scottish and English venues including the Theatre Royal, Glasgow. "The Selfish Giant", produced by Graham Vick, was performed for short runs in Edinburgh and in Glasgow where it marked the opening of the Mitchell Theatre.
