Biography
A little biography by Richard Webb, I was born in Lewisham in 1959. Due to my mother being Swedish my parents decided to settle in Sweden in 1962 and this is where I have grown up. As a child I took an interest in listening to music this was observed by my English grandfather who liked to play music on his record player. I remember him saying to his brother who was an actor — he is a very musical child and another time —he’s a deep thinker this boy. The essence of becoming a composer. This was what he wanted to do could he live his life anew.My father also had a keen interest in music, listening to classical records. On several occasions we went to the Royal castle in Stockholm to listen to the military bands. My love of music I suppose grew out of this. At school I learned to play the flute, which was compulsory at the time and then I played the violin for three years. The Rock and Pop movement took away all attention to traditional and classical music thus pupils engaged in this music became outsiders; as a result I did not continue my violin studies. When I left basic school my musical listening was broadened and I returned to discovering classical music. Listening had become a creative and critical activity listening to how the music was constructed, how it sounded, which parts were more satisfying to the ear than others. A desire to make music myself developed. I started learning music from scratch with the help of tutorial books reading this and that, among the books I bought is Rameus book “Treaties on Harmony”. By this time I had developed a liking of Baroque music ways and manners.
