Biography
In January 1997 the Sunday Times, writing about Janet Edwards one-woman show, said:
"Janet Edwards is one of Great Britains hidden treasures, an artist of extraordinary talent ranging from classical music through to jazz and rock."
In her one-woman shows she sings and plays her own songs as well as her musical arrangements of other works by some of the finest songwriters of the 20th Century.
Janet Edwards was trained as a classical pianist, singer & violinist. However, as a young child she was surrounded with sheet music which ranged from Noel Coward to Rodgers and Hammerstein and from operetta to oratorio. Aged 13 she was church organist and then studied under Michael Kruszynski, the Polish concert pianist. Even in her early career as a classical musician her love of jazz, theatre and popular music shone through and her performances of Rhapsody in Blue and other Gershwin songs and piano music became paramount in her professional work.
As a piano soloist she performed extensively throughout the UK including Londons Wigmore Hall, the South Bank, the Alabama Halle and Amerika Haus in Munich and in 1995 she gave a solo piano recital at the Barbican, for the first public performance of A Wedding Suite by Sir Arthur Bliss. She was also musical director at a Royal Gala performance at Drury Lane theatre. As a piano accompanist she has toured the UK and Europe with international soloists of the Royal Opera House and ENO, including tours to Italy, France and Germany with the soprano Julia Migenes. She also accompanied many musical theatre artists at West End Gala performances.
