Biography

Paul K Joyce’s musical journey began in the early 1970s with a formal education in piano, leading eventually to writing and performing original music, initially within rock and pop bands. In 1983 his band SENSE secured an international recording and publishing deal; European tours with Depeche Mode and Kim Wilde followed, culminating in 1986 with the album ‘Hold On’ and the French hit single ‘Jamie’. In 1989 Paul began to concentrate on writing music for television and film whilst studying piano and composition in greater depth. He has since written and performed music for numerous television dramas, documentaries and series for the BBC, ITV, Ch4 and Disney. In 2001 Paul received an Ivor Novello for his theme to the animated series, Bob the Builder. All music is scored to picture in Paul’s digital recording facility and he regularly conducts and records choirs, string quartets, orchestras and session musicians, is a patron of the Nottingham Choral Trust and lectures on television and film composition. As co-founder of Creation Productions Ltd, the site-specific theatre company, Paul has helped bring two innovative productions to fruition. ’Frankenstein - The Creation’ was performed in a Victorian pumping station with choir, orchestra and narration and the spectacular outdoor staging of the 1950s science fiction classic ‘Quatermass and the Pit’ was realised in Cropwell Bishop quarry.Recent years have seen the development of Paul's ambitious 'Snow Queen' project. Initially a CD featuring songs performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Voices and narration by Juliet Stevenson this concept has generated successful concerts and a BBC film. Paul is currently developing a science-fiction film and working with YES guitarist, Steve Howe on his latest album.
