Biography

Born in India, moved to England in 1954. Immediately got caught up in the birth of Rock 'n' Roll.

Peter and his two brothers, Rick (Eden Kane) and Clive (Robin Sarstedt), all had hit records, beginning with 'Well I Ask You' for Eden Kane in 1961.

The Beatles, Dylan and a new style of music swept through Europe and Peter was immediately drawn to the art of songwriting. Since 1966 Peter has composed and recorded many hundreds of songs. His first release, 'Where Do You Go To My Lovely' became one of the great love songs of the last thirty years, constantly heard on compilation recordings and radio stations around the world. 'Where Do You Go To' was awarded the Ivor Novello Award in 1969, memorable as it was a shared award with David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'. The only other time the Academy was so impressed with two composers that it gave a joint award was when it was shared by George Michael and Annie Lennox.

Peter has continued to compose and release some of the best examples of the art of the singer/songwriter. 'Beirut', 'Mulberry Dawn' and 'Tall Tree' from the 70s stand tall among contemporary works. 'English Girls' and a series of recordings for the Songwriters Workshop were constantly played on BBC radio in days when Glam rock took centre stage.

Most recently Peter has released an album on Round Tower Records (RTMCD89) called 'Englands Lane', and is currently collaborating on several projects with Dominic Crawford-Collins.
