Biography

Terence Thompson was born in 1928 in Staffordshire. His career has been that of composer, teacher and clarinettist/ saxophonist.

After military service with the Band of the South Staffordshire Regiment, he trained at the Birmingham School of Music as it then was, and from 1950 to 1959 he was Music Master of West Bromwich Technical High School, combining this with a short period as a part-time clarinet tutor at the Birmingham School of Music. From 1960 to 1966 he was Head of Music, followed by part-time lecturing at West Midlands College of Higher Education, and a full-time senior teaching post at Wolverhampton Music School. Throughout this period he also taught clarinet and saxophone at an independent school and continued his career as a free-lance orchestral player and recitalist.

Terence is a member of the following organisations:

British Academy of Composers and Songwriters, Musicans' Union, Schools Music Association, Clarinet and Saxophone Society, Central Composers' Alliance (TREASURER), Performing Right Society, Mechanical Copyright Protection Society, National Union of Teachers, Light Music Society, Black Country Society, British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles.
