Biography

Des is an accomplished musician and songwriter with considerable experience and, under the pseudonym Jimmy Silver, has worked as a professional singer, saxophonist and songwriter with a variety of different acts.

Some of his early professional engagements included supporting Jimi Hendrix, Jose Feliciano (TV) and Al Green, as well as touring with Aretha's sister Erma Franklin who did the original Piece of my Heart. One band he formed included Dave Rowberry (Stevie Wonder, The Animals, Four Tops, Tom Jones) on keyboards and Ron Telemacque (Funkmasters, Equals, David Cross - ex King Crimson, Jimmy Ruffin) on drums.

Des also gigged and/or recorded with Gordon Hunt (Bob Marley, Sade), Roy 'Slim' Smith, Eddy Grant, The Pioneers, Matt Aitkin (Stock Aitkin & Waterman), Richie Tattersal (Lulu), Rod Gammons - producer (Beverly Knight, Liberty X, Ultravox), Shirley & Dee Lewis (Bros, George Michael), Bobby Harrison (SNAFU), Phil Harding - producer (Pete Waterman Ltd) & Angie Brown.

Solo releases as singer were Easy Evil on Bus Stop, singer/songwriter/saxophonist on Skin talk & Body walk on GEM and Love is on Dakota.

He has also signed earlier songs to Campbell Connelly, Hi Fi Music, Dakota Music, Southern Music and GTO Publishing Ltd.

A Channel 4 TV program on poet Langston Hughes called Blues for Langston also featured him playing the theme music on tenor sax backed by Courtney Pine's Jazz Warriors which included Tony Rémy, Gary Crosby & Mark Mondesir.

Currently a prolific composer/lyricist, he is also also open to collaborations with lyricists. Des uses his Mac/Cubase SX3 recording set-up for his songwriting and pre-productions. Other equipment includes Roland Fantom XR, 16/8 mixer, Delta 1010, Yamaha keyboards etc, etc.
