Biography

Andrew is one of Britain's most respected creative musical directors, working in different professional and community settings and across many different musical styles. He has long experience of creating and devising music and music theatre projects for young people and the wider community.

He is currently an associate composer with the French music/installation company, Mecanique Vivante, developing new repertoire for a unique set of MIDI-controlled musical sirens.

Music commissions often involve new and unusual combinations, bringing together styles and musicians from many different sources.

He is also active in the theatre, having studied with Stephen Sondheim. His musicals have been supported and endorsed by Cameron Mackintosh.

In 2002 he established the unique London Philharmonic Open Ear Orchestra which only performs music written by its members. To date it has premiered over 40 new works including contemporary classical and jazz big band scores, rock concertos and pop ballads. It is open to enthusiastic creative musicians from any background.

PROFESSIONAL ENDORSEMENTS AND PRESS COMMENT

"....in every way [The Challenge] already surpasses dozens of musicals professionally presented in recent years on either side of the Atlantic." - Financial Times

"The music [Of Bricks & Bones] by Andrew Peggie, who leads an able and efficient band, is a delight. Full of soaring ballads and rhythmic energy, it makes real demands on the cast...." - Birmingham Post

As deviser and Project Director for Making Musical Theatre (40 students created and performed a 90 minute original musical):

"One of the highest quality creative and performance projects we've ever done. The students are positively glowing with pride and enthusiasm." - Contemporary Musics Course Leader, University College, Bretton Hall

As composer and Project Director for Sound It Out's New Work Project (Birmingham):

"You managed to do all the things the project set out to so in spite of the numerous and ambitious aims....[and] created a work that made the audience sit up and realise that under the banner of community music you could create the highest standard of professional work that broke new ground in music." - Director, Sound It Out
