Biography

Born in Liverpool Tony attended St Tere`se -Diliseux, were he was given a distinctly Christian perspective on things with a view to joining the priesthood, it was however at this school that he was introduced to Italian Opera by Gerard Keiran.

At the age of twelve he was asked to teach classical guitar to adults at the local institute, being of a high standard on the instrument at that age and having studied classical guitar and music theory with Pierre Bethel a French /Belgian tutor.

It was envisaged that Tony would go onto perform at grand concert hall venues, the Philharmonic hall in Liverpool being one of them , alas after working in a solicitors office in the center of Liverpool Tony went on to play with many local bands (well documented) and also played at the now famous 'Cavern Club' as well as other venues.

Eventually he played with the Pete Best Combo when Pete left the Beatles and toured the Continent -  'The Hamburg' days as they call it now.

He also spent a large part of his teenage days in America and made many recordings and appeared on television there.

On his return to the UK Tony went on to study orchestral writing with Dr Henry Zajaczkowski of the Royal Academy of Music and orchestral conducting with David White based on the technique of Toscanini.

He joined Decca Records as a producer and staff writer, many hits followed.  He also wrote scores for and conducted many famous orchestras for television productions.

Together with his business partner Wayne Bickerton, Tony formed a joint company with A.T.V. ('Associated Television', a national television company at the time), it was a very successful partnership.

Also formed the State Group of companies:
Founder director Odyssey Studios (major west end studios) used by Cliff Richard, Roxie Music, The Who, Kate Bush etc.
Founded Eastwood studios.
The Jazz FM Building (Marble Arch London) was commissioned and built by a company belonging to Tony and his partner as offices for their record company and studios for their recording activities; they subsequently sold the building on to the radio station Jazz FM.
