Biography

John Hardy studied music at the Queen's College Oxford and did a post-graduate composition year at the Guildhall School Of Music And Drama, alongside Paul Daniel and Julian Morgenstern. He was director of the Edington Festival Of Music & Liturgy for 4 years, composer in residence with Welsh performance companies Cardiff Lab and Brith Gof, and has worked since before student days with film makers, dance companies, animators, orchestras, opera companies and visual artists to create collaborative works where music plays a crucial role.

He has scored hundreds of TV projects and many films, twice winning BAFTA Cymru 'Best Original Music' awards, including for the movie Hedd Wyn, which also won RTS Best Drama, and was nominated for an Oscar [Academy Award] in 1994. In 2006 a programme on Aberfan, Children Of The Valley, won RTS best Documentary of the Year award - all its music was by John. Three films are currently in post-production or awaiting release & distribution.

His work for orchestra, including Blue Letters From Tanganyika, continues to be in demand, and plans are afoot to release recordings of this and other works in near future.
