Biography
Welcome to the profile page of songwriter, composer and music producer David Smart. An honors graduate from the London College of Music & Media with degrees in both Music Technology and Multi Media Technology, David began playing the piano at age 5 and went on to become a multi-instrumentalist in his teens. He developed his musical gifts by playing both keyboards and bass in church as well as in several bands, most notably the 80s R&B Fusion band “Rare Touch” with whom he won several competitions including a recording contract in 1987 and his first TV recording opportunity with Sky TV in 1988. Inspired by his favourite musician, the legendary bassist Marcus Miller, David always felt drawn to composing and arranging music, which he did for his band as well as other musicians and singers with whom he formed successful collaborations. During the 90s he decided to concentrate on developing his music production skills and in so doing wrote and produced tracks for a large number of acts.
In addition to his songwriting and composition talents, David possesses a great deal of studio recording and music programming experience. He launched his first commercial recording studio and music productions service named Streetlevel Productions in London back in 1996 and went on to set up The Compact Disc Centre Ltd in 1998. With his extensive expertise, developed from several years working in studios all over the UK, David made the decision to share his wealth of knowledge as an educator in music. He is currently in the process of constructing an online learning resource called www.musictechtraining.com which specializes in music technology and audio practice tuition.
Besides his ongoing music production projects, David is a part time music technology lecturer, teaching in further educational institutions across the south east of England. He also tutors in centers throughout the Royal County of Berkshire, UK, where he delivers sessions in digital music and multimedia studies. A member of the British Academy of Songwriter and Composers as well as the Music Producers Guild, today David’s focus is centered mainly on writing songs, composing and producing for his music publishing company Smart Publishing Ltd, www.smartpublishing.co.uk. He is currently co-writing on projects with a number of close writing associates. This includes his continuing collaboration with long time writing partner Wade (www.lifeinspiresmusic.com). He has also developed a successful rapport with his friend and business partner George Hamilton of Let’s Cre8 Productions (www.letscre8.com). Not forgetting his collaboration with his sister Carmen who’s session singing credits include recording and live performances with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Madonna, Tom Jones, Cece Winans, LCGC and many more.
At present David is co-writing and producing material with George Hamilton for another Let’s Cre8 production as part of the Colourful World series (www.acolourfulworld.com). He will also be producing other works throughout the year so check back soon to find out more…
