Biography
I remember my first interest in music. It was when I saw Cliff Richard, Marty Wild and Joe Brown in Oh Boy! on television back in the late 50s. Then the Beatles came along. I was at school then.
At school our music teacher was also our algebra teacher, so we were not very enthusiastic; also, the music mainly involved listening to classical music rather then modern music at the time.
When I left school I had some guitar lessons with a friend at his home; I then bought an acoustic guitar and practised to the Shadows, Beatles and Stones etc. Later on I bought a keyboard, taught myself from books and tapes, then an electric guitar - a Fender Strat - on which I love doing Chuck Berry riffs.
It wasn't until 1990, when I was made redundant from my job as a chauffeur and could not find a job for two years, that I was playing my keyboard and guitar to other people's sheet music, and I thought, Why don't I try and compose something myself? I wrote my first song, "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love", and it went on from there. Up to now, I have written 17 songs and got myself a publisher, Composed Music Publishers. I became a member of BASCA, the PRS and the MCPS.
I have collaborated with my friend Brian Hall on a song, "Celina". I wrote the lyrics and Brian the music.
Also, I collaborated with friend John Bates on a song, "Together", and instrumentals "Boulevard", "Palm Beach" and "La Madrugada".
I have written a song with friend Colin Darnell called "Our Wedding Day", which Granada Television has shown an interest in.
We are currently working on a song which we are hoping to dedicate and give to the Children with Leukaemia, which is a charity that we both support and have helped collect monies for in the past.
Two film producers are interested to use two of my songs for title music of their films.
