Biography

Christos Andreou was born in Larnaca in 1981 and started having clarinet lessons with his father at the age of six. In 1989 he was the youngest member of Larnaca’s Municipal Wind Band. In 1992 he joined the Larnaca's Music School where he continued having clarinet lessons. After his success in the ABRSM grade examinations with distinction, Christos has shown a great interest in many other musical topics. This gave him the opportunity to expand his knowledge of playing and performing. In 1999 he joined the army and in 2000 represented Cyprus’s Military Band as the 'youngest representative and finest musician of the year' in the annual European Festival of Military Bands.

In 2003 Christos was accepted to study a Bachelors Degree in Music at Canterbury Christ Church University with clarinet Professor David Campbell.

Since then he has been inspired by his teacher’s excellence and coaching in clarinet performing. In his first year his teacher founded the ‘David Campbell Clarinet Quartet’ which Christos joined as the only undergraduate. After a number of successful and excellent performances in England (including the London College of Music, Canterbury Festival and many others) the quartet travelled to Cyprus and gave an outstanding concert in Larnaca’s Festival of Classical Music in April 2003.

In his third year Christos was featured as a soloist in the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto with the Canterbury Christ Church University Big Band, the Carnival of the Animals with the Canterbury Christ Church University orchestra and more recently as a soloist in the second UK performance of the musical The Last Clarinet. After graduating with a First Class Honours Degree, he was awarded with the Larissa Lovelock Memorial Scholarship as 'the most outstanding performer of the year who also applied for a post-graduate degree in the same institution'.

After having studied for 5 years with David Campbell, Christos gained a Masters Degree in Clarinet Performance from Canterbury Christ Church University. Several countries in which he has performed include Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Russia and United Kingdom. Christos is also a saxophonist, a pianist and an arranger who also deals with computer music technology. He has composed music for several movies and film projects which have been produced and created by students of the Media and Film Studies department of Canterbury Christ Church University. He has also arranged music for several ensembles and groups.

He is currently working as an assistant to Prof. Grenville Hancox and Prof. David Campbell, as well as a clarinet teacher and Music Technology educator in the Music Department of Canterbury Christ Church University.
