Biography
Collene Louisa Webb is a composer, lyricist, writer and performer from South Staffordshire, England. Her majors works to date include 'Winter in the Valley' for string orchestra and 'In the Nick of Time' stage musical.
Collene was born in 1989 and wrote her first song 'I Know You' at 6 years old. She also began training at the Marilyn Harris School of dance and has now achieved vocational grades in RAD ballet, ISTD tap and modern.
She continued to write songs, scripts and stories (and an all-on-black-notes tune on a children's mini keyboard) before formal music lessons. She started tuition in piano, violin and music theory when she was 9, studying mostly with ABRSM. She has passed Grade 7 Piano and Grade 5 Violin.
'I've never been a fan of instrumental practice because I've always wanted to do my own thing,' she admits. 'Whilst I love performing as an actor/dancer/singer, I'd much rather compose music than perform it.'
Collene began to write and compose her initial ideas for 'In the Nick of Time - The Musical' in May 2004. She had made two previous attempts at writing a musical but decided not to finish them. However, she was confident that 'In the Nick of Time' had great potential. After working many weekends and school holidays she completed it in September 2005. She went on to form a new amateur theatre company 'Serendipity Productions' to stage the show.
'In the Nick of Time -The Musical' was premiered at the Mill Theatre, Sedgley on 20th and 21st April 2006 for three performances. Collene was also producer, choreographer, rehearsal MD and played the leading role of 'Philippa Bramble'.
She left school (because 'Homework Sucks!') with 11 GCSEs, one of which was an A* in Music, and went to college. She has recently passed the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts - Performance with Triple Distinction. She has self-published her musical and set up her own rights hold brand 'CLWCreations' for future performances.
Collene wants to develop her composition, singing and acting skills further. Jeffrey Benton has been her invaluable singing coach for nearly four years. In a July 2005 concert held at Perton Church, she sang a short Italian aria and her 'Winter in the valley' for string orchestra was premiered. 'It was an ironic title for such a hot day,' she reflects.
Collene enjoys supporting new British works or rarely performed productions. A musical very close to her heart is 'Anne of Green Gables' by Donald Harron and Norman Campbell which is hardly ever staged in the UK. Collene hopes to train as an actor and enter the profession but writing and composing are equally important to her. She frequently comes up with new ideas for stories, music and poems.
'It would be brilliant if I had a magic watch that stops time (as in my musical) because there just aren't enough hours in the day!'
