Biography

Hi, I am a songwriter from the UK, based in Essex. Having played in a band for over 10 years, I felt it was time to hang up my drum sticks and take up something far more relaxing. It seemed like a natural progression to develop into songwriting. So, for the last 2 years I have been working in my studio, creating a number of new songs/lyrics and producing those ideas into 'finished' pieces. Though as Quincy reportedly said 'it's not that they are ever finished, they are just abandoned!'

The songs included on my website www.songsbydickgroves.com can be listened to via the linked media player, or downloaded through Broadjam. I play all of the instruments. Thankfully, I know a number of fine singers to help me out!
Most of the ideas and lyrics come from past experiences, both relationships and life in general. I find it more rewarding to write in many different styles, so the songs range from romantic jazz ballads to pop/rock, from chillout to MOR radio-friendly. Some of the songs, I consider demos and some finished 'masters'. I do hope that there is something there that suits most tastes!

The songs 'People' received 10/10 for originality with good potential, from the Great American songwriting competition, reaching semi-final stages. It also made semi-finals in the UK songwriting competition. This year I have submitted a number of new songs into the competitions, so we will have to wait and see.  I have already had great interest shown and contracts offered, from two publishing companies in the USA, for a total of 12 songs.

Shock, horror, there appear to be sharks circling! It would appear that some American publishers don't like to discuss potential legal problems with their contracts. Looks like I've got to hold out for an honest publisher. There must be one somewhere. Mustn't there?
