Biography

In the summer of 1970, Eddie Spence began singing to audiences when he was 15 years old in the pubs and clubs of Belfast. Eddie sang in the secular circuit for nearly twenty years and became a veteran of singing Blues, Rock n Roll and Country.

When Eddie became a Christian in 1986 he was encouraged by others to sing Gospel. Since then he has recorded several well-received Gospel albums with people from over 24 countries in the world having requested copies. He has performed extensively at home and abroad.

In July 2001, Rev. Howard Lewis a well-known writer and teacher of the Christian Faith in Ireland approached Eddie to consider writing songs that would compliment the teaching material that he was producing. Eddie produced 21 songs for the program until unexpectedly and tragically his friend Howard died in March 2003 from an operation to remove a brain tumour.

Since then, Eddie has continued to work at his writing, singing and performing. He is currently looking for a publisher who would be willing to take him to the next level of exposure and help him further develop his talents.

A few weeks before he went into hospital to have the tumour removed Howard Lewis wrote about Eddie's talent for singing and writing.

"I write as Vice-President of the Evangelical Alliance, and founder of `The Mandate` men`s conference based in Belfast. I have known Eddie Spence for many years, I have been privileged in recent years to have him work alongside me at many meetings and conferences in Great Britain, and beyond at which I have been invited to speak. His ministry of song writing and performing has invariably been received with wholehearted enthusiasm and appreciation."

He has a rare gift of capturing, not just the words of Scripture but its essential meaning in all of his work. I have no hesitation in saying that I believe that, although largely unrecognised, Eddie is one of the most talented Christian song-writers around today, and I believe that he has been greatly gifted by God to bring challenge and direction to today's Church through his music. I would support any initiative that would make his work more readily available to a larger number of people than has been possible until now.
