Academy at Cannes 2008
The Academy is attending the Cannes Film Festival 2008.
In 2007, Professional Media composers and representatives of the British Academy Francis Shaw and Chris Smith visited the Cannes Film Festival, establishing a presence and distributing USB sticks containing work by some Professional media composer members.
The visit to Cannes was very successful and the branded USB sticks were an effective format to generate interest, whilst most importantly promoting members’ work. Chris and Francis established and strengthened many useful European and domestic relationships with organisations and individuals associated with the film industry.
Last year the Academy presence was made possible by funding from UK Trade & Investment and the Performing right Society (PRS). This year, the Academy has again been generously granted some funding from UK Trade & Investment and the PRS. The Academy representatives are aiming to identify and initiate meetings with key decision-makers at Cannes and provide those people with a specially commissioned presentation, again on a branded USB stick, which will include a list of all Professional media composer members of the British Academy, with a hyperlink to each of their websites, where applicable. Members can opt out of being included in the list.
The Academy will report in-depth to UK Trade & Investment after the event and indeed to Academy members, as to the success of the second year at Cannes and further progress made.
