The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters announces the appointment of Chief Executive Patrick Rackow, replacing Chris Green who has held the position for 10 years. Patrick has served as an external director on the Academy Board over the past seven years and has also been the Academy’s principal legal advisor throughout this period. Additionally he has been a music industry lawyer for the last 14 years and has a wide ranging knowledge of the music industry in general and of the issues facing the composer and songwriter community in particular. Patrick will take up the position full-time from 1st September 2008.
Patrick Rackow comments:
"I am thrilled to be taking over from Chris Green as the new CEO. The changes in the music industry during the Academy's first ten years have been dramatic. This has presented the Academy's members with a myriad of new opportunities but also with new and increasingly serious threats to both their income and their moral rights. I am looking forward to leading the Academy into the next phase of its development and working with David Ferguson and the Board to shape its future as a community, a political and campaigning force and in its celebration of British composing and song writing".
British Academy of Composers and Songwriters Chairman David Ferguson, comments:
“I am delighted to welcome Patrick as our new CEO, his depth of experience will prove invaluable and we already know how we are going to work with him through his successful work with us as an external director. I look forward to a healthy new future together. On leaving the Academy after ten years at the helm, Chris Green will be taking up a number of part-time consultancies mainly in music and the arts, working from his Herefordshire home.
